OK, so you’re retired. You made it. Much like getting through school, it may have been touch and go along the way. But that’s for another day. Here you are, and you’re wondering, “Hey, Survival Guy, what are your retired clients doing?” Good question.
As I scan my long list of retired or soon-to-be-retired clients, and some I spoke with today, I can tell you the number one goal is making sure there’s enough money to live on. That’s a given. But what about filling the days? Simply put, you’re busy doing life, with the number one activity being time spent with family.
Time with family, whether that’s helping with grandchildren, traveling, or just being together, is the number one activity. But what else?
One of my long time clients hosts a regular listening party for friends and family where he’ll do some prep work and discuss artists and songs or focus on a certain time in, for example, rock and roll history.
Fishing is another big item on the list. Crabbing too. One client goes regularly with his grandson. Fly fishing is up there, as many of you know from other stuff I’ve written. Golf is a big one for obvious reasons. Then there’s skiing in the winter and the water sports in the summer, like sailing (some of you winter on your boat in the Bahamas), and another couple windsurfs this time of year in Hawaii.
Action Line: Whatever it is you enjoy doing, you’re lucky to be doing it and need to carve out time for yourself. Doing nothing at all is still doing something. Reading is doing something. In my conversations with you, you don’t sound stressed out. You sound like you’re enjoying life. That’s the point, isn’t it?
